The Maastricht Guitar Society is excited to present the Ukranian guitar phenom Marko Topchii in the groote zaal of the Gasthuis Calvarienberg, Abtstraat 2a. Marko is one of the most successful competition winners on the international circuit at the moment with more than 50 awards in competitions and a recent performance in Carnegie hall. The concert opener will be the Conservatorium Guitar classe’s own Alexander Feldman!

Marko has won more than 50 awards worldwide in the international guitar competitions in the professional category. Among them, 26 first places in the competitions in United States, Mexico, Japan, China, Taiwan, South Korea, Indonesia, Germany, Switzerland, France, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Liechtenstein, Serbia and Ukraine. The most notable prizes is available in the “awards” section. He plays guitars made by Karl-Heinz Roemmich, Yuichi Imai, Sakurai Kohno and Hong Sik Uhm. Marko is a D’Addario artist since 2012. Marko actively performs around the world, regularly gives concerts with the orchestra; he is desired teacher of the master classes and constantly mentioned in the mass media. Marko Topchii was born into a family of musicians in Kiev, Ukraine and is started studying guitar at the age of four. He is 24 years old and is currently pursuing a doctorate degree at the Tchaikovsky National Academy of Music in Kiev under the guidance of Prof. Yuri Alexik, Honored Artist of Ukraine. He completed his master degree in the National University of Arts in Kharkov in 2011, where he studied under Prof. Volodymir Dotsenko, Honored Artist of Ukraine. The concert we have all been waiting for! Maestro Carlo Marchione will be performing for the first time in Maastricht in years!

Mr. Marchione is currently one of the most respected guitarists in Europe. He studied at the academy of music in Rome and thereafter won innumerable awards at international and national competitions including Ancona 1979/80, “L. Legnani” Parma 1981, “M. Guiliani” 1982, “Ville de Sablé” 1985, Gargnano 1989, “N. Paganini” 1991, “Città di Latina” 1992 and is now a regular guest at festivals throughout Europe (Italy, Spain, France, Holland, England, Czech Republic, Germany, Austria, Rumania, Ukraine, Poland, Russia, Sweden, Croatia) appearing both as soloist and with various ensembles. He has performed in most of the great concert halls in Europe including the Amsterdam Concertgebouw. Additionally, while tourings in Russia he was invited to perform in the prestigous Main Auditorium of “Tchaikowsky Conservatory in Moscow” as well as with the Philharmonia of St. Petersburg, an honour very rarely bestowed upon a guitarist. Both concerts were sell-outs and received standing ovations. He frequently performs with orchestras across Europe and in 1998 he gave his debut at the Berliner Philharmonie in 1988
.
Many guitar composers have dedicated compositions to him, such as Abel Carlevaro, John Duarte, Carlo Domeniconi, G. Drozd and Simone Iannarelli. Mr. Marchione has made many highly-praised transcriptions for guitar including transcriptions of Schubert’s Die schöne Müllerin and Telemann’s 12 Fantasias for solo violin, which have both been released on CD.

Mr. Marchione is also a renowned pedagogue and lecturer who’s students have included Marcin Dylla, Goran Krivopapic Irina Kulikova, Vladimir Gorbach, Tal Hurwitz and Florian Larousse. As a testament to his pedagogical skill many of his students have won prizes in international competitions (over 60 prizes and over 40 first prizes at the last count).

Tuur Segers (BE) and Andrea Roberto (IT) are two of the most talented young guitarists in Europe.
Andrea Roberto, began studying guitar at age 4. At 9 years old, he was admitted to the U. Giordano Conservatory of Music under the tutelage of guitarist Sandro Torlontano, and graduated with honors at the age of 14 with his bachelor’s degree. He continued his studies with Aniello Desiderio at the Koblenz International Guitar Academy in Germany. He has received a variety of international awards including the David Russell Prize for young talented musicians at the Conservatory of Vigo (Spain), the Parkening Young Guitarist Competition at Pepperdine, and the Joven Promesa Prize at the VIII José Tomás—Villa de Petrer (Spain) International Guitar Competition. In 2010 he won the Valter Cococcia Prize, which goes to the youngest Italian conservatory student graduating with honors. In addition to this he has won prizes in numerous other competitions including the International Competition of the Adriatic in Pescara, the Fernando Sor International Competition in Rome, the International Competition of Mottola and the Stefano Strata International Competition of Pisa.

Tuur Segers developed an interest for the guitar at a young age recieven his first lessons from his father. He has performed, amongst other places, in the Koninklijke Muntschouwburg, in ‘Bozar’ Brussel, the Basilica Festival of Vlaanderen in Tongeren, the guitar festival in Petrer (Spain) and the Wereldomroep in Hilversum. Additionally, Tuur was selected to play in the “fiësta de la guitarra” in Tallinn and Parnu in Estonia. Aditionaly he played with the ‘Rubens strijkkwartet’ in the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, de Doelen in Rotterdam, the Philipszaal in Eindhoven and in Janine Jansen’s chamber music festival in Utrecht.
Tuur has won numerous prizes in competitions including: the ‘Dexia Classics’ in Brussels, the Andrés Segovia International Guitar Competition for Young Guitarists, the Anna Amalia International Guitar Competition for Young Guitarists, the Prinses Christina Concours, International Guitar Competition Brno, the Forum Gitarre Wien and the José Tomas International Guitar Competition in Petrer.

Tuur and Andrea are currently studying in Maastricht with Carlo Marchione.
